Dr. Raviganesh Mogra , MD Kaya Chikitsa , is the recipient of ‘Vaghbhata Puraskaran’ by Vagbhata sarani-a unit of Swadesi science movement. He has nearly a decade and half of Academic and Clinical experience. He has incepted the plan and established the esteemed institution, Sharada Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Mangalore on 2017 and taken it to its grandeur by serving as the Principal, Chief Medical Officer and HOD of Kaumarbritya.

Ayurveda is considered as fifth Veda . which is based on strong demands of ancient texts. Precise understanding of classical texts of Ayurveda is a challenging task and requires knowledge of Sanskrit. Department of Moulika siddhanta acts as the basic department imparting the knowledge and understanding of texts on Ayurveda . It deals with Sanskrit , the fundamental principles of Ayurveda , history of Ayurveda , interprets philosophical aspects (Padartha vijnana) and Samhitas like Charaka Samhita , sushrutha Samhita and astanga hridaya. Samhita is the nodal point for the Astangas of Ayurveda . The Department deals with in depth study of Samhitas .
Sanskrit language helps the students to understand the original Ayurvedic concepts. Accurate knowledge of samhitas helps in enhancing clinical skills there by enabling to be better physicians .
A physician to excel in the field of medicine should have an accurate knowledge about the human body. Shareera rachana (Anatomy) is the core subject which deals with the structural aspects of the human body. This accurate preliminary knowledge allow students to learn anatomy through practical cadaveric dissection, three dimensional models, workshops on handmade models, drawings and theory classes. It is accomplished through a well built Anatomy museum with a collection of finely dissected specimens, quality organ models and a bone bank to ensure best in class training for the students.
Understanding the human body is a vital part of any medical course. Study of Human body with respect to the structure and functioning is an inevitable part of the course. Kriya shareera comprises of the functional aspects of human body. Ayurvedic understanding of physiology is based completely on the principles of Dosa(bioenrgies), dhatu(tissues), Mala(waste). This forms the basis for the disease diagnosis along with the preventive and restorative management of heath. We also expose the students to the current understanding of physiology in contemporary science.
Ayurveda is the system of medicine where apart from diagnose & treatment, imparts the knowledge about preparation of medicines. Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana stands as backbone of Ayurvedic medical science which deals with the preparation of medicaments & food necessary for healthcare. Department also deals with Ayurvedic pharmaceutics and pharmacology, where it explains in detail about manufacturing procedures of Ayurvedic medicines, their mode of actions and therapeutic uses.
“Nature itself is the best medicine”says Hippocrates. Existence of animal kingdom has always been dependent on the plant kingdom. The Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana deals with the study of drugs and its applications. It is considered as Materia medica of Ayurveda, which includes pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharmacotherapeutics, etc. The knowledge regarding medicinal value of plants has been collected in course of several centuries and its properties and clinical applications are understood by principles of Dravyaguna such as Rasa, Guna, Veerya, Vipaka, Prabhava and Karma.
Proper understanding and diagnosis of disease is the successful step towards treatment Roganidana and Vikruti vijnana ensures in helping students with fundamentals of Ayurveda teachings along with contemporary methods.
Swasthavritta & Yoga is the Unique branch of Ayurveda which gives importance to both vaiyaktika (Personal) and samajika(social) swasthya i.e health.It deals with Prevention,Protection, Cure and Rehabilitation of the body, mind and soul. We train our students to deal with life style modification by imbibing the concepts of Dincacharya, Rutucharya, Patya Ahara, Nidra, Bramacharya, Sadvrutta, Vega and Yoga, through our well equiped facilities in the department and eminent faculty members.Following these concepts helps to carve the human beings to follow the right way of living and inturn maintain a healthy life.
Agada tantra, the science of toxicology is one among the eight branches (Ashtanagas) of Ayurveda. It mainly deals with study of signs, symptoms and also management of poisoning from various poisonous plants, animals, food etc.
Vyavahara Ayurveda deals with the code of conducts relevant in the field of medical practice, including medical ethics and duties of physicians towards patients and state.
*Prasuthi tantra and sthree roga department – a sanctum to nourish feminine bliss. It exclusively deals with feminine reproductive system, it’s disorders and treatment. Prasuthi tantra merely deals with the care of pregnancy, it’s signs and symptoms, delivery and care of postpartum.
Sthree roga emphasizes all types of gynecological disorders and it’s treatment.
In our Prasuthi clinic, we aimed to provide utmost care for pregnant women, for easy and natural delivery and for safe post partial period with due respect to Ayurvedic traditions.
In Sthree roga clinic, Infertility, PCOS, ovarin cyst, uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse such gynecological disorders are well managed with our classical ayurvedic treatments.
We give unique local therapy in the form of yoni prakshalana, yoni pichu dharana, yoni abhyanga, yoni swedana, yoni dhupana, yoni kalka dharana in active vaginal infections and certain other gynecological disorders.
Kaumarbhritya is one of the Most Important Branch of Ayurveda dealing with the care of the child from the Conception to till the Maturity It is one of the Eight Branches (Astang) of Ayurveda.
It focuses on all aspects of nursing and healthy upbringing of newborns, infants and children by holistic approach for better progeny and society.
Affliction of disease is common both physically and mentally. Kayachikitsa gives great significance in understanding vast spectrum of physical and mental disorders. Thorough understanding of one’s constitution and dosahs (vaata, pitta kapha) involved are the important steps towards diagnosis. Proper diagnosis is first step towards successful treatment. Application of theoretical knowledge in diagnosing and treating the disease is taught in the department of kayachikitsa.
Shalyatantra is one of the distinct branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda and it has been rediscovered through extensive research in recent times and has emerged as the Department of General surgery. Acharya Sushruta’s name is synonymous with general surgery.
The department provides academic/clinical inputs to the students, with the main focus to impart the understanding of principles of modern surgery along with ancient surgical procedures that are performed since thousands of years.
Students get to learn fundamentals of surgical diseases, clinical and surgical application of various treatment modalities. The study deals comprehensively about identification and use of various surgical instruments, concepts of Anaesthesia, sterilization techniques, demonstration of various surgical and para-surgical procedures. Hands on training of minimal invasive yet effective procedures help students to improve their skills and to emerge confident and competent. The department ensures overall development of students especially in terms of value education and use of technology.
• Shalakya Tantra is one of the Ashtanga of Ayurveda. Shalaka is used as an instrument for diagnostic and treatment procedures, Tantra means science.
• This branch is also known as Urdhwanga/ Jatru urdhwa/ Uttamanga chikitsa as this deals with the diseases occurring above the neck such as head, ear, eye, oral cavity (throat, palate, tongue, teeth, gums, lips) and nose.
Objectives:
• To provide holistic approach of diseases and treatments using contemporary tools.
• Train to perform distinctive and effective therapies like classical kriyakalpa, modified kriyakalpas , Mastishkya chikitsa, surgical and parasurgical procedures such as leech therapy, pracchana etc.
• Students are advised to self-experience the therapies under the guidance of speciality doctor for enhanced practical applicability
• Tie-ups with other super speciality hospitals to enrich the knowledge.
Popularly known as the Fivefold detoxification therapy ( Panchakarma) is of greater siginificance in weeding out a disease from its root cause.
Considering the wide range application of panchakarma in different diseases, students will be extensively trained to perform panchakarma procedures and have a hands on experience. Thus the students will get a better understanding with memory of the theory taught in the classroom. Discussion of clinical cases with the students helps them to have more interest and passion towards the subject and also helps in the development of scientific temperament towards Ayurveda.
